North Beach Restaurants and Shoppes Streetscape Project
The City of Fort Lauderdale is making safety and beautification improvements along NE 32 Street and NE 33 Street between NE 33 Avenue and A1A that will enhance the area and improve walkability. The scope of the project includes:
 
·   Asphalt milling and resurfacing
·   New curb and gutter
·   New ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides of each street
·   New pavement markings and signage, including at crosswalks
·   New concrete wheel stops in parking areas
·   Underground electrical work and conduit trenching
·   Upgraded lighting with LED fixtures
·   New decorative pedestrian lights
·   Landscaping upgrades including a new irrigation system and new trees with root barriers and Silva Cells
·   Relocating a stormwater pipe
Timeline:
Construction began Monday, July 13, 2020 and is expected to be completed in late 2020.
Traffic and Parking Impacts:
Temporary lane closures are expected on each street as work progresses and full road closures may be required to ensure safety during some construction activities. Please follow posted signs and drive with caution in the area.
 
Parking on NE 32 Street and NE 33 Street between NE 33 Avenue and A1A will be limited during construction. Alternative parking will be available west of NE 33 Avenue and at the Beach Community Center.

Holiday Park COVID-19 Testing Site is now open
The drive-thru COVID-19 self-swab testing site at Holiday Park is reopening on Tuesday, August 4. Located at U.S. 1 and N.E. 8 Street (just south of Sunrise Boulevard), the site will resume its normal days and operating hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The site offers free drive-thru COVID-19 self-swab testing to anyone age 5 or older with or without COVID-19 symptoms. No doctor referral needed. Proper ID is required with name, date of birth, address, and photo. To reduce wait times, please register for an appointment online at https://florida.curativeinc.com/welcome. Overseen by healthcare professionals from AMR, the testing procedure for the oral self-swab test requires individuals to swab the inside of their mouth for approximately 20 seconds. The swab sample is then placed in a vial, sealed, and sent to a lab for analysis. Results are delivered to patients via email or text message. Lincoln Park COVID-19 Testing Site is now open
The free walk-up COVID-19 testing site at Fort Lauderdale’s Lincoln Park will reopen on Tuesday, August 4. Located at 600 N.W. 19 Avenue, the Lincoln Park testing site will resume its normal days and operating hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Administered by the Florida Department of Health, the site offers free walk-up COVID-19 testing to anyone with or without COVID-19 symptoms. Weekly Food Distribution at Mills Pond Park Tomorrow, August 6
The next drive-thru food distribution event hosted by the cities of Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, and Wilton Manors will take place on Thursday, August 6 beginning at 9 a.m. at Mills Pond Park, located at 2201 NW 9 Avenue. Produced in partnership with Feeding South Florida, the event provides healthy and nutritious food to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Food is distributed on a first come, first served basis (while supplies last). Recipients must remain in their vehicles and will be instructed to open their trunk when volunteers are ready to load it. To access Mills Pond Park, please enter from southbound NW 9 Avenue. Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday Starts August 7
The 2020 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday was passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis. The sales tax holiday begins Friday, August 7, 2020, and ends Sunday, August 9, 2020. During this sales tax holiday period, qualifying items will be exempt from tax, including certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item; clothing, footwear, and certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item; and the first $1,000 of the sales price of personal computers and certain computer-related accessories purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. Through an exploration of his work as an actor an activist, Antonio will share his advice on the art of acting and collaboration. We'll review his preparation and rehearsal process as an actor, and learn how he cultivates collaborative relationships. We'll finish the session by diving into a new writing resource our team has put together for the upcoming 48 Hour Film Project.
