Fort Lauderdale to Host Drive-thru Meet and Greet
at Middle River Terrace Park Tonight, Thursday, August 27
to Welcome Newest Resident of Historic Annie Beck House
FLPD Officer Justin Fairburn to Reside in Park’s Historic Home

The City of Fort Lauderdale and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department will join with the local community to host a drive-thru Meet and Greet event at Middle River Terrace Park (1329 NE 7 Avenue) to welcome Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Justin Fairburn, who will be residing in the Park’s historic Annie Beck House. View the event flyer at https://bit.ly/3hDfMO8.
The Meet and Greet will take place on Thursday, August 27, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., at the
Annie Beck House, located in Middle River Terrace Park at 1329 NE 7 Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

The drive-thru Meet and Greet event is free and open to the public and neighbors are encouraged to participate. Vehicles should enter Middle River Terrace Park using the driveway off NE 7 Avenue (just north of NE 13 Street); proceed west toward the Annie Beck House to greet Officer Fairburn; then follow the loop to exit the park. Drivers are reminded to remain in their vehicles and follow proper COVID-19 protocols.

Originally located on Las Olas Boulevard, the Annie Beck House was built in the early 1900s. The traditional craftsman style bungalow is typical of the architectural style that was prevalent in the U.S. during the early 20th Century. In 2008, the house was moved to Middle River Terrace Park where it served as the home of the Broward Trust for Historic Preservation and was also used by the Fort Lauderdale Junior Woman’s Club. Today, the historic residence serves as the home of Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Justin Fairburn to provide enhanced public safety for the park and improve quality of life for the surrounding community.
This project has been a priority of mine since I was elected and I am excited that it has come to fruition.

Rental Assistance
BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Qualified residents impacted by COVID-19 will soon be able to apply online for rental assistance, thanks to the Broward County Commission.
Broward County has allocated $25 million in federal CARES funding for a program that will help residents pay portions of unpaid rent for the months of April, May, June, July and August 2020. Funds are not a loan, and do not have to be paid back.
Individuals may be eligible if they meet the following requirements:
·   They are a Broward County resident
·   They or someone in their household experienced a documented loss or reduction in income related to COVID-19
·   Due to the loss of income related to COVID-19, they were unable to pay their rent
·   Their landlord agrees to participate
Assistance equates to a partial payment of rent. For months one and two of the owed rent amount the rental assistance program will pay, and the landlord must agree to, 75% of the amount due. For months three, four and five of rent assistance , the program will pay, and the landlord must agree to, 60% of the amount due. Late fees, if any, will not be covered by the program.
Payments are made to landlords, therefore if a landlord is not willing to complete the documents, the tenant will not be eligible for assistance.
Broward County’s Family Success Division is managing the application process and will approve and distribute funds until depleted.
Application Period Opens August 31
The application period is Monday, August 31 through Sunday, September 6, 2020, from 8AM to 10PM daily. Applications may be submitted online only, atBroward.org/CARES. A computer is not necessary, and the application can be completed on a smartphone or tablet. No in-person applications will be accepted.
Because applicants are required to attach significant amounts of substantiating documentation, residents who believe they are qualified are encouraged to begin today to collect documentation required for the online application process. For details, visitBroward.org/CARES. The application must be completed in one sitting and cannot be partially completed, saved or returned to at a later time.
Examples of the types of documents that may be required depending upon each unique situation are:
·   Copy of valid government-issued ID
·   Rental lease agreement or Tenant Verification Form, completed by landlord
·   Late notice for past due rent/eviction notice/past due notification
·   Paystubs
·   Evidence of unemployment or loss of income if self-employed
Once a resident’s application is assigned a case manager, he or she may be asked to supply other documents such as bank statements. Again, consult the website for details on documents that may be required at time of application.
“Our residents are hurting,” said Broward County Mayor Dale V.C. Holness. “This $25 million rental assistance program can provide much needed financial assistance to many, many families who need our help, and help protect landlords and small businesses who need to collect rents to pay mortgages and other expenses related to property ownership.”
COVID-19 has impacted many Broward County families in many ways. If you have loss of income not related to COVID-19, and need help during this difficult pandemic, please visit our Family Success Division website to see what other resources may be available to you.

Census Ends September 30! Take Action Now!
Attention Neighbors! The U.S. Census Bureau is ending all counting efforts for the 2020 census on September 30, a month earlier than previously announced. That means we all need to work together to take action today! Please help the City of Fort Lauderdale be accurately counted in the 2020 Census. Prepare for King Tides
Unusually high tides, called “King Tides” will occur now through December. Anticipated dates for King Tides are as follows: September 16 - 22; October 14 - 21; November 13 - 18; and December 13 – 15. These tides have historically caused flooding in low lying areas of our community. The City uses stormwater fees to invest in long-term strategies to adapt to King Tides. We also take proactive action to prepare for the high tides and we encourage our neighbors to do the same. Please review flood safety tips, evaluate your property’s readiness, and review your flood insurance policy. Avoid driving on flooded streets. Be aware of the timing of the high tides and how they may affect your travel plans. Note that tides may intensify mid-month during a new moon. If you experience flooding on your street, make sure storm drains are not blocked and remove waste carts as soon as possible once emptied, or wait until your next scheduled collection day to put them out. For more information about steps the City is taking to prepare for King Tides and tips on what neighbors can do to be ready, visit http://bit.ly/2Ulrd27.
