King Tide Precautions
The City of Fort Lauderdale is experiencing standing water in low-lying areas throughout the community. Conditions are expected to continue through Friday, Sept. 25, 2020. We encourage neighbors to watch for standing water and drive with caution in these low-lying areas, including: Harbour Inlet, Las Olas Isles, Rio Vista, NE 32 Avenue and East Oakland Park Boulevard on the barrier island, and SE 2 Street along the Himmarshee Canal. As a safety precaution, Cordova Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from SE 12 Street to SE 11 Street during the following days and times: Thursday, September 24, 12:30 a.m. - 4:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.; Friday, September 25, 1:30 a.m. - 5:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. For questions or to report flooding concerns, please call the 24-Hour Neighbor Service Center at 954-828-8000. Department of Health Information
According to the Florida Department of Health, as of September 23, 2020, from approximately 49,511 daily COVID-19 tests conducted statewide, there were 2,622 positive results and 46,889 negative results for a positive rate of 5.30%. There were also 202 reported deaths. In Broward County, from approximately 4,197 daily tests conducted, there were 217 positive results and 3,980 negative results for a positive rate of 5.17%. In total, results from 555,749 tests administered in Broward County indicated 478,715 negative results, 76,146 positive results, and 888 inconclusive results. Free Admission to NSU Art Museum for Fort Lauderdale Residents Through September 30
The NSU Art Museum announces extra Free Fort Lauderdale Neighbor Days! Now through September 30, Fort Lauderdale residents can receive free admission to the NSU Art Museum and enjoy all the exhibitions including Happy!, Transitions and Transformations, I Paint My Reality: Surrealism in Latin America and William J. Glackens: From Pencil to Paint. Admission is free with a valid photo identification, driver's license, or residential utility bill with proof of Fort Lauderdale address. Wear Facial Coverings at Polling Locations
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Broward County reminds residents who choose to vote at public polling locations, either during early voting or on November 3, to wear a facial covering. Broward County’s Emergency Orders require residents to wear a facial covering when in public. There is no exemption in the Emergency Order for Election Day. Therefore, residents are reminded that they need to wear a mask at the polling locations, or vote by mail, which does not require a mask, unless the voter is dropping off their ballot in person at a post office or early voting location. All 22 early voting locations have official ballot drop boxes that residents are able to use for their vote-by-mail ballots, without personal contact, and without having to stand in lines of people waiting to vote in person. Voter Registration Deadline Approaching
The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office reminds everyone about the following important deadlines related to the November 3 General Election: October 5 is the last day to register to vote in the General Election on November 3; October 24 is the last day to request a mail-in ballot for the General Election on November 3. Early Voting for the November 3 General Election will take place from October 19 - November 1 from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. daily. For a list of early voting locations, visit bit.ly/31E54zV. Census Deadline Approaching – 7 Days Left to Raise the Count!
The 2020 U.S. Census will end on September 30, meaning there are only 7 days left for City of Fort Lauderdale residents to help raise the count! Currently, Fort Lauderdale’s response rate is 56.2%, which is 10 percentage points behind the national response rate of 66.2%, and nearly 7 percentage points under the state of Florida response rate of 63%. If you have not done so already, please respond to the 2020 Census today! Fill out and mail back the questionnaire sent to your home; complete the census form online atwww.my2020census.gov; or take the census by phone by calling 1-844-330-2020.
BCPS Plans to Reopen for In-Person Learning Oct. 14 and Oct. 20
Broward County Public Schools plans to begin a staggered reopening for in-person learning on Wednesday, October 14 with additional students having the opportunity to return to building classrooms on Tuesday, October 20. Under the current plan, pre-K and kindergarten students, along with those in grades 1, 2, 6, and 9, as well as students with special needs would return on October 14. All other grade levels would begin in-person learning on October 20. The Broward County School Board will need to officially vote on the final reopening plan at either its September 29 Workshop or its October 6 Board Meeting. For details visit www.browardschools.com.
COVID-19 Testing Site at Mills Pond Park
The Florida Department of Health is operating a drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Fort Lauderdale’s Mills Pond Park, located at 2201 NW 9 Avenue. The site offers free drive-thru testing Monday – Wednesday and Friday – Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The testing site is closed on Thursdays and Sundays. Testing is available to anyone with or without COVID-19 symptoms. There are no age requirements and no doctor referral is needed. Appointments are not required. COVID-19 Testing at Holiday Park
Fort Lauderdale’s Holiday Park offers free drive-thru rapid COVID-19 antigen testing with same day results, as well as free drive-thru oral self-swab testing. Located at U.S. 1 and N.E. 8 Street (just south of Sunrise Boulevard), rapid COVID-19 testing is offered Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to individuals of any age with COVID-19 symptoms or individuals ages 5 to 17 or 65 and over without COVID-19 symptoms. Appointments and photo ID are required. To schedule an appointment, visit www.tourhealth.com. Most results are delivered via text or email within a two-hour timeframe. Free drive-thru COVID-19 oral self-swab testing is available, Tuesday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., to anyone age 5 or older with or without COVID-19 symptoms. No doctor referral needed. MASS District to Host Drive-in Movie Night on October 1
Jack & Jill’s Young Professionals Group in partnership with the Jack & Jill Children’s Center and the MASS District will present a double-feature Drive-in Movie Night. The event will take place on Thursday, October 1 at 8:00 p.m. in the MASS District, located at 844 NE 4 Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Featured screenings will include the 2008 comedy “Step Brothers,” and the 1993 Disney family film “Hocus Pocus.” Admission is $30 per vehicle for one film or $40 per vehicle for both movies.
