Remembering Alan Levy
The Community Foundation of Broward recently lost a beloved member of our philanthropy family with the passing of Alan Levy.

Alan loved this community, stepped up for those in need and provided bold leadership to help make Broward a better place to live. Both Alan and his devoted wife Marsha are former Community Foundation Board members who have helped guide our efforts to shape a brighter future for Broward.
Alan and Marsha are also Fundholders at the Community Foundation. Alan’s legacy of generosity and service will continue through the Marsha and Alan Levy Educational Opportunity Fund, which provides scholarships, support for schools and additional critical resources to help Broward’s disadvantaged youth and others improve their lives.

“Alan Levy was a passionate advocate for education and for children. He gave so much through his time, talent and treasures to make Broward County better and to inspire each of us to do more. He believed in our community's nonprofits and challenged everyone to care for our children and especially those who are vulnerable. I will miss his smile and warmth.”

Foundation’s New Leader Sees Philanthropy In Action
Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D., got a firsthand look at how local philanthropy is changing lives for hardworking families at A Rick Case Habitat Community in Pompano Beach.

Jennifer this week toured the new neighborhood where 77 affordably priced homes are under construction by Habitat for Humanity of Broward. A $1 million grant from the Mary N. Porter Legacy Fund at the Community Foundation jump-started construction of Habitat’s largest ever Broward neighborhood.

Habitat Broward CEO and Executive Director Nancy Robin and Director of Construction Alex Nesar showed Jennifer the bold impact of Mary’s gift. Mary’s Fund, created with her estate gift, paid for water and sewer lines, electrical lines, roads and other infrastructure. Mary’s grant also helped pour the foundations for 50 homes.

Jennifer’s visit included Chartavia Brown’s future home. Soon, thanks to help from Mary’s gift, Chartavia will become the first homeowner in her family. She and her children will get a fresh start in their own three-bedroom-two-bathroom version of the American dream.

It's not a trick. It's a treat! There's now a lot more time to complete your 2020 Census. The U.S. Census Bureau recently announced that census operations will continue through the original date of October 31, 2020. Read the statement atbit.ly/2SwKxJC.
Census takers will still be visiting households that haven't completed their census. They may also visit your house if you did complete it as a quality check. Learn more about census taker visits and why they may still visit your home even if you’ve responded at bit.ly/2R8U09i or on the City’s website at bit.ly/3j5covo.
So, why wait for a census taker to visit? Take 10 minutes and complete it now. Your response will help the City secure funding for hospitals, schools, nutrition programs, Medicare/Medicaid programs, housing, roads, bridges, emergency response and so much more for the next 10 years.
