Maximum sustained winds are currently near 80 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.
The NWS expects weather conditions to continue to deteriorate today with sustained tropical storm force winds arriving later this afternoon and continuing through Saturday night and into Sunday. Isaias is expected to bring heavy rain ranging from 2 to 4 inches across Broward County which could result in urban and street flooding, especially in low-lying and flood prone areas. A storm surge of two feet or less in Broward County could produce possible flooding in coastal areas and other areas vulnerable to surge. Swells are expected to spread along the east coast of Florida today causing dangerous surf and rip current conditions.
Neighbors are reminded to finish their storm preparations immediately as the arrival of increasingly stronger winds will make outdoor preparations dangerous. Please make sure all loose items are stored or secured including outdoor furniture; plants; trash, yard waste, and recycling carts and bins; tree trimmings and branches. As high winds and heavy rainfall arrives, residents and visitors should remain indoors until the storm passes.

Local Bridges Closed to Marine Traffic
The following bridges have been locked in the down position and are closed to marine traffic: S. Andrews Avenue Bridge, S.E. Third Avenue Bridge, S.W. 7 Avenue Bridge, and the S.W. 11 Avenue Swing Bridge. The bridges remain open to vehicular traffic.
Fort Lauderdale Under Local State of Emergency
Mayor Dean J. Trantalis has issued a Proclamation of Local State of Emergency for the City of Fort Lauderdale related to preparations for Hurricane Isaias and anticipated effects of the storm. Beyond protecting life and property, the proclamation is necessary to carry out various operational and logistical disaster preparations, including staffing, obtaining vital supplies and equipment, and post-storm recovery.
Residential Trash, Yard Waste, and Recycling Canceled for Saturday, August 1
The City of Fort Lauderdale has canceled residential trash collection, yard waste, and recycling services for Saturday, August 1. Trash collection for customers normally serviced on Saturday, August 1 will resume on the next regularly scheduled pickup day. Recycling and yard waste services for customers normally serviced on Saturday, August 1 will resume on Saturday, August 8.
City Parks, Cemeteries, and Beach Closed Through August 2
City parks, cemeteries, and Fort Lauderdale Beach are closed through Sunday, August 2. Ocean Rescue lifeguards will remain in the towers on the beach until sustained winds reach 39 miles per hour. Services scheduled to take place at City cemeteries will be rescheduled.
Riverwalk Center Parking Garage
Through Tuesday, August 4 at 8:00 p.m., Fort Lauderdale residents may park vehicles on the third and fourth levels of the Riverwalk Center Garage (formerly City Park Garage), located at 150 SE 2 Street. Payment will not be required on the third and fourth levels of the garage and enforcement will be suspended. Normal parking operations and enforcement will resume on Tuesday, August 4 at 8:00 p.m.
COVID-19 Testing Sites at Holiday Park and Lincoln Park Closed
The COVID-19 testing site at Fort Lauderdale’s Holiday Park, located at U.S. 1 and N.E. 8 Street, is closed through Monday, August 3. Pending weather conditions, the testing site is expected to reopen on Tuesday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m. The COVID-19 testing site at Lincoln Park in Fort Lauderdale, located at 600 N.W. 19 Avenue, is closed and will remain closed until it is safe to reopen. The anticipated reopening date is Tuesday, August 4 at 9:00 a.m.
